550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town celebrated 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism with great fervor, devotion & enthusiasm. The programme started with recital of 51 'Japji Sahib' Paath by 51 students followed by Shabad Kirtan under the patronage of Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Around 250 students of the school dressed in white sang the hymns describing his glory & spoke on his life & teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji through poems, speeches and sakhis. The sangat made a beeline to pay obeisance to the great Guru.
Serenity & calmness floated in the air with the melodious hymns which paved the way for a very fruitful & productive day. The speeches and sakhis narrated by the students focused on Guru's teachings & tenets of universal brotherhood. The students presented mesmerizing Shabad Kirtan in praise of Guru Nanak Dev Ji which enchanted & soothed the soul of everyone. The highlights of the programme were Dilpreet Kaur of Class XII narrated a sakhi on 'Peer Dastgeer'. Balmeet Singh of class IX recited a poem on 'Sikhi'. Manmeet Singh of class VIII voiced his thoughts on 'Guru Nanak Dev Ji De Parchar Dhang'. The students of classes V to VIII had discussion on 'Mool Mantar'. The whole gathering was in a meditative mood when the students of class IV sung a shabad 'Baba Dekhe Dhiaan Dhar Jalti Sab Prithvi Dis Aayee'.The spiritual ambience of the devotional hymns rented a religious fervor in the air when the school Music Team enkindled minds with soulful shabad renditions of 'Sun Nah Piare, Ik Benanti Meri'.
CD of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Shabads was also released. Track will be uploaded on school's Facebook page, YouTube channel & School Website. All the shabads are sung with Tanti Saaz (Rabab, Taush & Tanpura).
General Secretary S. Gurvinder Singh Sarna, Manager S. Harbhajan Singh (Advocate), Principal Mrs.Gurmant Kaur Gill, staff and students joined hands in celebrating the Gurpurab. Speaking on the occasion, S. Gurvinder Singh Sarna Gen. Secy. threw light on the life & teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji & emphasized to tread on the path shown by Guru Sahib Ji.
Lastly, Langar was served to the sangat by staff & students of the school.
